Dental Implant Restoration
Dental implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth. They can achieve an aesthetic result, function like a natural tooth, do not involve altering any of your natural teeth, and have a good success rate. Dental implants also help with maintaining your bone levels over time, supporting your natural teeth and bone levels.
Can Everyone Have Dental Implants?
In order to qualify for a dental implant, you need to have enough bone structure to support it. We also need to make sure that your implant is compatible with your sinus anatomy. Many patients can have dental implants without complication; however, some require additional procedures like bone grafting or a sinus lift before we can recommend an implant.
Patients taking certain medications may face additional complications. To find out if you are a good candidate for dental implants, call our Belton dental office and set up an exam with Dr. Ian Kuklenski. He can guide you through the necessary first steps to successful implant placement and restoration.
What Is a Dental Implant?
An implant is composed of two different parts. The first is a titanium post that a surgeon implants into your jawbone. This post is made of materials that are compatible with the human body and will function much like the roots of your natural teeth by providing stability and structure.
After surgical placement of the implant post, the area will be given time to heal – a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration allows your implant to combine and integrate with your natural bone and become stable. This process can take several weeks to months depending on your unique case, your health, and the location of your implant.
After healing, Dr. Kuklenski will begin the process of fabricating the second part of your implant – the crown. This will involve taking an impression of your implant, which will then be used fabricate a custom-made crown. We will permanently cement or screw the crown onto your implant post.
Dental Implant Care
Once you receive your permanent implant crown, you will be able to brush and floss your implant just a like a natural tooth, but it will have the added benefit of not being at risk for decay!
Taking excellent care of your gums is essential to the success of your dental implant. Brushing, flossing, and regular exams help to ensure that your dental implant will last for many years to come. Your routine exams and cleanings protect your investment.
